Mujigae 무지개 to screen exclusively at SM Cinemas starting October 9
Audiences can watch the Filipino-Korean family drama Mujigae 무지개 (Korean for “rainbow”) starting October 9 exclusively at SM Cinemas nationwide. It features the highly-anticipated acting comeback of Kim Ji-Soo alongside a talented roster of Filipino artists.
The film follows the 5-year-old half-Korean, half-Filipino orphan Mujigae who is suddenly put in the care of her estranged Aunt Sunny in the Philippines after losing her Filipino mother in South Korea. As they navigate their new relationship, the characters confront grief, unravel multicultural complexities, and learn to understand each other. Things are further put to the test when Mujigae’s biological father, Ji-Sung Park, enters the picture, challenging the definition of family and forcing Mujigae to choose between two homes. The characters’ unexpected journey charts the transformative power of unconditional love and resilience as they eventually find their place in the world.
The film is led by the performances of child star Ryrie Sophie as the titular character of Mujigae and Alexa Ilacad as the unlikely mother figure of Aunt Sunny. Making his Filipino film debut, Korean actor Kim Ji-Soo, widely recognized for his roles in Strong Girl Bong-soon and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, adds further star power to the cast.
Viewers can also look forward to the special appearance of beloved comedy icon Ruffy Mae Quinto who is making her return to the big screen. Joining them are Richard Quan, Kate Alejandrino, Donna Cariage, Cai Cortez, Roli Inocencio, Anna Luna, Lui Manansala, and Peewee O'Hara.
Mujigae 무지개 marks the return of director Randolph Longjas since his previous full-length project, Star na si Van Damme Stallone, back in 2016. This time, he worked with writer Mark Raywin Tome.
"Together, we moved mountains to bring this story to life and saw the ‘mujigae’ (rainbow) at the end of it,” he said in a press statement. "I think viewers will go through a rollercoaster of emotions depending on where they stand on having kids. I’m not here to tell you when to laugh or cry, but I promise there will be moments that resonate deeply."
