The Eraserheads: Combo on the Run documentary’s press conference was held last February 17 at Chef Guevarra’s by Chef Laudico in San Juan with director, Diane Ventura, and Eraserheads members, Ely Buendia, Rico Gonzales, and Francis Lumen, a month ahead of the film’s premiere.

Get to know more about the rockstars of Eraserheads, from controversies to reasons behind their breakup:

“I really tried my best to uphold the truth, nothing is swept under the rug,” said director Diane Ventura on the making of the film.

After years of the Eraserheads being together, breaking up, and reconciling multiple times, the upcoming documentary serves to pay fans back and let them in on what was it really like after all this time for the members Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro to be in the well-loved band.

“I guess the boys and I love mystery and keeping things vague,” Buendia admitted the band’s habit of keeping things hidden from the public in the past, then commented on the necessity to reclaim their narratives and put the truth out from all the years of speculations and controversy involving them. In light of talking about these speculations, the singer shut down the famous rumor that their song “Spoliarium” was about the Pepsi Paloma case.

Presented by DVent Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the Filipino documentary will be released in Dolby Atmos theaters.

Director Ventura mentioned that the sound design was completed in Berlin. Other known artists recorded in Berlin, such as Taylor Swift.

The panel also narrated how the documentary is a musical experience. It includes clips from Eraserhead performances. This is also one of the reasons why the documentary feature film will run for only three days this March, declaring that they want to create a special experience that cannot be witnessed anywhere else outside of cinemas.

However, according to the director, there are no negotiations yet for the film to be available for streaming on other platforms after the film’s theatrical release.

A testament of growth and maturity for the band broadcasted to the nation

What started as a way to shed light on the truths and to repay fans was also a healing journey for the people on set.

Ventura and Lumen talked about how difficult it was to get the members together and how much patience was needed to make the film. They also narrated that the atmosphere got lighter for everyone as filming progressed.

Many pent-up emotions were released in the process, making sure all four members were equally documented on their sides of the story. The speakers teased the fans on exposing information and confessions to the public that have never been revealed even just to the members themselves until this documentary.

Ventura, who has always been close friends with Buendia, stated “It didn’t really feel like work to me… it was healing to me,” despite the stresses of documentary filmmaking. Buendia said, “I wouldn’t admit I cried but there were rumblings of crying.”

Ely, Buddy, Raymund, Marcus in the long run for better or for worse as one of the country’s most beloved bands

Before working on Eraserheads: Combo on the Run, the band had only been in one film together back in 1995 titled Run Barbi Run by Tony Reyes.

They starred as themselves alongside TV personalities, Joey de Leon and Maricel Laxa.

Ely Buendia recalled the film during the press conference saying it was a letdown in comparison to their album Cutterpillow, racking up over 40 thousand sales on its first day in just the same year, “You can’t be on top all the time.” He follows it up by expressing that the only thing they can do now to top the grand efforts of this documentary film is to only get more experimental and creative.

Eraserheads: Combo on the Run is coming to theaters from March 21 to 23, only in Dolby Atmos cinemas. Stay tuned to the film’s official social media account @eraserheadscomboontherun for updates.
